Aussie

Organized by Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue

Update!
I wanted to give you an update on Aussie the sweet senior dog that you previously donated for. Aussie had been recovering from her many ailments in a local foster home. Her foster mom, Omie, renamed her Sophie. Sadly Sophie got away from Omie and had been missing for a little over a month. After much searching she was finally found and reunited with Omie recently! When she was found, she barely had the strength to stand. Sophie was immediately taken to the emergency vet to be treated. She was severely emaciated, covered in ticks, and had nothing but pebbles and pine needles in her belly. After a few days of intensive care, Sophie was allowed to go back to her foster home to yet again recover. She is doing much better now! You can view a local news story of this happy and heartwarming reunion here:

Update from Aussie's Foster Mom!
HERE IS A NOTE FROM AUSSIE'S FOSTER MOM...
When I mentioned today to Lynette that Aussie was cough some, she suggested that I call the vet which I did immediately. He told me to bring her over so , in spite of having two grandchildren for the afternoon, we all went to Florence to see Dr. Causey. Dr. Causey was concerned. He needed to evaluate her and the coughing so he did some blood work and took a chest x-ray. The blood report was great - much better than he expected. The chest x-ray showed the enlarged heart but he expected that because of the heartworms. She has gained 3 pounds since I've had her. I'm using a premium dog food and it's obvious that she has a good appetite. Dr. Hewitt told me she needed to gain some weight and we've been working on that. Dr. Causey did not prescribe any medicine because of the occasional coughing - I think that is a good sign. He did start her on the 30 days of Doxy in preparation for the heartworm treatment and is very optimistic that she will come through this treatment well. On Oct. 3 she will get the prednisone pill followed in one hour by the Heartgard tablet. She tolarated the first one well so hopefully the second one will not give her any trouble.Right now she is sleeping after her busy afternoon but when she wakes up I will give her a kiss from you and all of her supporters. Please let the people who have contributed to her cause know that their contributions are appreciated so very much. When I think about the generosity of the strangers who are helping this little dog, I am filled with gratitude and awe. Please thank them for me, and Aussie sends her thanks too. Never again will she be abandoned and taken to a shelter in a truck! The rest of her life will be spent in comfort and peace and love.
Aussie Update!
Aussie has been moved to a temporary foster home. It has been determined that Aussie is a senior girl - probably around 10 years old. After a lifetime of neglect and producing puppies, Aussie has a few more health issues than we originally thought. She has been spayed. The vet noticed that Aussie had two breast lumps so he removed them. One is benign. The other has low grade carcinoma. The vet felt confident that he removed all of the carcinoma though, so we are hopeful that Aussie will not have any more issues with the cancer. An xray was taken of her chest and we got great news that there was no sign of cancer in her lungs. Yay! :) Aussie has a urinary tract infection right now and is on meds for that. She should hopefully be over the UTI soon and be feeling much better. And, as we all knew already - she is high heartworm positive. We think that the vet will do a less aggressive approach to her treatment due to her age, and not do the two injections back to back like is typically done.
Aussie's foster mom reports that she is a true velcro dog - following her wherever she goes! Aussie also loves some snuggle time on the sofa! You'll see here some new pics taken of Aussie in her foster home enjoying some of the good life! We all want to show Aussie what a loving home is. She has obviously never known what being a spoiled and beloved pet is. No matter how much time she has left on this Earth - be it one year or four years. Aussie is truly deserving of a second chance at life. We want this beautiful girl to retire in style!
Her vet bills are now estimated at $1,150. We know that this may seem like an awful lot of money for a senior dog with the health issues that Aussie has. But doesn't she deserve a chance to love and be loved in her golden years? We don't want to toss her aside like trash. We are very committed to getting Aussie the healthcare that she needs and to finding her a loving home or rescue to go to. Please help us to help Aussie by donating and crossposting her story. We sincerely appreciate it, and I know that Aussie does too!
Aussie Needs Help!

"Aussie" is a beautiful girl that has obviously had many litters of puppies and is a little shy. But she is oooooh so sweet! Poor Aussie is currently at the Darlington County Humane Society in Darlington, SC. The poor girl has tested HIGH Heartworm positive. To make Aussie a little more appealing to rescues we are trying to faise the funds to pay for her to be treated for heartworm. We would also like to raise the money for her to be fully sponsored for her vetting (spay, vaccinations, hw test, and deworming). This way she can go to an approved rescue for FREE!!!! To pay for everything, we need to raise a total of $400. Please help us to help sweet Aussie. She is so deserving of a second chance at life.
